Context

Why parquet flooring adds lasting value to a room

Parquet stands for a natural wood look, a pleasant feel underfoot and a room effect that does not feel arbitrary over time. In apartments, single-family homes and selected commercial spaces it is a long-lasting floor that works with many interior styles.

Quality parquet flooring stays in use for many years with a suitable build and can often be renovated later. Sanding, oiling or sealing can refresh the surface instead of replacing the entire floor too soon.

The range spans wood species and grades, format, laying pattern, and oiled or sealed surfaces – so you can steer room effect, care behaviour and character deliberately.

Which option suits your project depends on use, room size, daylight, maintenance expectations and budget. In consultation we work through these points with you in a structured, transparent way.

Overview

Parquet types and typical options

Strip parquet

Classic strips create a calm, homely or representative look depending on the laying pattern – easy to plan for traditional and high-quality rooms.

Engineered / multi-layer parquet

Multi-layer builds with a defined wear layer are often a practical choice when build height is limited, schedules are clear and renovation is modern.

Herringbone and classic patterns

Patterns such as herringbone emphasise lines, quality and room structure. Format, room size and light should be coordinated carefully.

Wide plank floors

Wider planks feel calmer and more open. For many living areas, wide plank flooring is a high-quality alternative or complement to classic parquet.

Oiled surfaces

Oiled surfaces highlight grain, colour and the natural feel of wood. With suitable care, the surface stays beautiful and homely long term.

Sealed or lacquered surfaces

Sealed or lacquered surfaces close the wood more strongly. In busier areas this can feel easier to maintain and more robust in daily use.

Decisions

What matters when choosing parquet

Seven criteria structure the choice — from wood species and pattern to surface finish, use and long-term renovability. In consultation and at our Munich-Forstenried showroom you compare each point with real samples and in daylight.

  • Wood species and grade

Colour, knot pattern and grain shape the first impression and should align with doors and furniture.

  • Format and laying pattern

Narrow formats and patterns often read as more classic; wider formats read calmer. Pattern strongly influences how the room feels.

  • Surface and care

Oiled versus sealed affects look, everyday care and how small scratches behave visually.

  • Use and wear

Hallways, family zones or commercial areas differ from lightly used bedrooms in what they demand from the floor.

  • Subfloor and build height

Concrete, existing boards or other finishes limit build-up and transitions to neighbouring surfaces.

  • Room effect and light

Daylight and room size change how colour and pattern read – samples in the showroom help comparison.

  • Long-term renovability

Wear layer and construction determine how often sanding and refinishing remain realistic.

The image comparison shows how wood species, pattern, finish and light change how parquet flooring feels in a room.

Service & existing floors

New installation or renovate existing parquet?

Not every project starts with a new floor. Sometimes careful renovation is the better choice. We review subfloor, build-up, condition and use – and recommend the sensible next step.

Plan and install new parquet flooring professionally

After sample selection we plan technically: we review subfloor, build-up, levels and transitions to tile, doors and skirting with you. That way issues surface in planning, not mid-project.

Installation is carried out professionally – aligned with product, subfloor, climate and schedule. You receive care notes suited to the chosen surface.

What we review

  • Subfloor and build-up height
  • Transitions, doors and skirting boards
  • Installation pattern and room effect
  • Surface and care suited to everyday use

Unsure which route makes sense? We assess your floor and advise honestly.

Which parquet flooring suits my apartment or house?

It depends on room size, light, use and interior style. Together we clarify wood species, format, pattern and surface – and check technical limits such as build height and subfloor.

What is the difference between parquet and wide plank flooring?

Parquet typically uses narrower strips or modules and supports clear patterns such as herringbone. Wide planks are broader boards with a calmer, more open look. Both can be combined sensibly in one property for different rooms.

Is oiled or sealed parquet better?

There is no universal answer. Oiled wood highlights grain and warmth and needs suitable care habits. Sealed or lacquered surfaces are more closed and often more forgiving with spills in daily life. We explain the trade-offs for your situation.

Can parquet be sanded later?

Often yes – if enough wear layer remains and the build is sound. Wear layer, sandability, repairs and surface treatment all play a role. How many sandings are possible depends on the product. We inspect the existing floor and state clearly what is realistic.
