Stairs in your own home during moves or refurbishment.
Stair renovation in Munich
Existing stairs shape hallways, entrances and living spaces. Parkett Stelzl reviews the structure, treads, edges and covering and recommends a suitable renovation with attention to durability, everyday use and visual coherence.

Context
Stairs take heavy use: treads wear, edges can chip and older coverings may look or feel uneven. Sometimes minor sounds or an irregular visual line prompt a review — without automatically implying a serious structural issue.
Renovation can be appropriate when treads or risers need refurbishment or re-covering, edges and profiles need a cleaner line, or the stair should tie in visually with new flooring in the hall or living area. In occupied homes and refurbishments, build-up heights and transitions are often the limiting factor.
We stay careful and technically honest: not every stair can be treated the same way. Existing structure, subconstruction, tread build-up, edge detail, chosen covering and later use all matter. Only after inspection can we outline realistic options and the kind of result you can expect.

Condition review
Wear, damage and whether refurbishment or a new covering appears structurally sound.
Junction with stringers and risers — often important for a calm overall look and neat edges.
Open edges, trims and transitions; solutions depend on build-up and materials.
Old coverings, adhesive residues or layered build-ups can influence the next steps.
Transitions to parquet, wide plank flooring or other finishes should read cleanly and technically work.
Wood tone, texture and treatment aligned so stair and floor read as one concept.
We discuss surfaces and details that can feel appropriately grippy day to day. Actual behaviour depends on material, treatment and maintenance — without absolute claims about “safety” in a legal sense.
Load-bearing behaviour and moisture context; not every substrate suits every solution.

Decision
With a sound base build-up and acceptable wear, refurbishment or a new stair covering can be sensible — provided dimensions and edge details still work and the visual target is realistic.
Heavily damaged areas, missing parts or treads that feel unstable may need partial replacement or a controlled rebuild. That is always case-specific and depends on timber, covering and the situation on site.
Material, build-up height and edge detail must align — otherwise you risk awkward steps, harsh edges or difficult transitions. The stair and adjoining floor should be planned together.
When parquet or wide plank flooring is installed at the same time, the stair can often be integrated visually — if the existing conditions allow. Not every stair will look “as new” afterwards; we prefer a frank expectation of outcomes.

Guidance
Depending on the existing stair, timber, a parquet-style layout or another compatible floor covering may be appropriate. Build-up height, edge detail and later use are decisive.
Matte or lightly textured surfaces can feel pleasant underfoot; lighting and cleaning habits also change perceived grip. We map options without claiming one-size-fits-all rules.
Link surface and treatment to everyday use and maintenance
Align appearance with parquet, wide plank boards or the hall finish

A transparent quotation and a realistic schedule for execution.
Work by experienced master craftsmen with clear handover and care notes.
When treads or edges show clear wear, old coverings distract, or the stair should visually connect to new flooring. Whether the effort pays off depends on the structure, build-up and your goals — we clarify that during inspection.
Often yes, if the substrate and build-up are sound and sensible refinishing or covering steps are possible. Severe material loss, missing parts or uncertain areas may need partial replacement or another approach.
In many cases yes — depending on build-up height, edge detail and existing materials. Not every tread allows the same solution; we review that first.
Often timber or wood-based materials with a suitable surface; sometimes other floor coverings fit if build-up and edges allow. The choice depends on use, maintenance and visual tie-in to the surrounding floor.
